HVAC
This one-year pathway program provides basic knowledge and skills in residential and commercial air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating.
MATA Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning (HVAC) I SEM881701 Grades 11-12 Credits: 1.5 This course is the first semester course in the MATA Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning (HVAC) sequence. This course provides basic knowledge and skills in residential and commercial air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating. Instruction includes basic electricity, safety, the physics of the refrigeration process, soldering and silver brazing, electrical components and controls, wiring diagrams, basic plumbing, sheet metal fabrication, and duct installation.
MATA Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning (HVAC) II SEM881702 Grades 11-12 Credits: 1.5 Prerequisite: MATA Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning (HVAC) I SEM. This course is the second semester course in the MATA Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning (HVAC) sequence. Students are provided advanced skills in residential and commercial air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating. The students learn to install, maintain, and repair heating and cooling equipment. Upon successful completion of this course, students are prepared to perform most aspects of HVAC and qualify for sponsored apprenticeship programs. Students may be eligible to take the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Certification Exam, the Universal R-410 A Certification Exam, any or all of the 12 HVAC Excellence Exams, and the National Construction Career Test (NCCT).
The following degrees and majors are offered as part of the Heating, Air Conditioning, Ventilation and Refrigeration Maintenance Technology/Technician (HAC, HACR, HVAC, HVACR program at Northern Virginia Community College.
ASSOCIATE OF APPLIED SCIENCE
Non-transfer, applied technology degree.
CERTIFICATE
A curriculum that consists of a minimum of 30 semester hours with a minimum of 15% of course work in general education which must include one (1) three (3) credit hour English class.
CAREER STUDIES CERTIFICATE
A Career Studies Option Certificate is a type of Certificate program not less than 9 nor more than 29 credit hours and are not required to include general education. These may be approved by colleges locally in response to area business needs.
